GREEN MACHINE - What happens if you mix a Reggae band with a jam band, positive chick rock and Spiritual Rasta message and Phisy jam dub?  That's correct, you get Green Machine!

Rising out of the post Garcia Deadhead and Reggae scenes of the late 90s Green Machine's constantly evolving sound has found its way into the hearts of music lovers everywhere. After years of experimentation with all most every genre they have come up with a unique sound that can only be described as reggadelic jam jazz. Tina Avila's powerful bass and vocals, Mars Copeland's solid in the groove Reggae drums, and Chris Avila's skankin' guitar and Dave Huckabay's bubblin' keyboards are complemented by the Rasta Chants of Featured performer Ras Horace .Green Machines Progressive message and solid grooves have landed them spots opening for the likes of Don Carlos, Eek- A -Mouse, Skatalites, Pato Banton, The Meliodians and Isaac Halie Selassie. If you get chance check out a Gm show its truly a feast for the eyes ears and soul

"Mix one part roots riddims, a cup of Jefferson airplane, two tablespoons of up-in-the-hills nyahbingh filtered through the suburbs, a pinch of wailing sax, five magic mushrooms and a dash of youthful enthusiasm, stir progressively and you might approximate the recipe for green machine's lions eyes (earth juice) -did i forget the John Conkaroo Root? Psychedelic grunge guitar interspersed with crisp fluid leads, one-drop drums and earthy vocals shared among the band whose female component (Tina Avila) lifts the spirit into otherworldly with ease ..s like"searching""chemical nation" and "property of the state." She also plays bass! This one has a nice overall feel and lacks the cliche-ridden posturing of some "local band" reggae." ~ Chuck Foster: Reggae update - the beat vol 25 2006 pg 14 ~

HOWLIN WOODS is a 4-piece band based out of Santa Barbara that combines soulful vocals, melodic lead guitar, and a driving rhythm section, HW has been performing steadily throughout California since 2009.

While the HW live experience consists mostly of originals compositions melded with improvisation, they are not ashamed to pay tribute to some of their greatest influences with cover songs ranging from Nick Drake to DJ Shadow, Grateful Dead to Talking Heads, Nina Simone to Pink Floyd, Otis Redding to Black Sabbath, etc to etc.

All members have been playing music together since 2002, jamming in various forms with friends and fellow musicians. In early 2009, brothers Jordan and Griffin Chetakian introduced songs they had written to drummer, Matthew3 Farrington and bassist Brian Chandler. They instantly knew that they had found a sound and vibration that felt just right. HW has crafted a sound all their own, collectively composing over 30 songs in just over a year and continuing to create each time they enter their studio.

Howlin Woods consists of:

Jordan Chetakian – Rhythm Guitar & Lead Vocals

Griffin Chetakian – Lead Guitar

NORMAL BEAN BAND - Mind blowing guitar stunts and made up songs in the moment, original music doesn't get any better!  Lyrical and Melody add-lib master Normal Bean is a prolific songwriter with 1000's of homespun tunes.  Part of the extended family's next generation's of artist to keep the add-lib shows alive...west coast producer of several independent productions as well as Comcast Cable

presently broadcastin on cable TV to over 90,000 homes in the North West!  Cable Channel 29 - Eugene, OR available online!

Recorded in their old chicken coop garage turned recording studio in Pasadena OLD CALIFORNIO set  out to mix a gritty soup of bucolic rock and roll influenced as much by Moby Grape, Crazy Horse and The Grateful Dead as by the chaparral canyons and ungovernable San Gabriel mountains themselves. Songwriter Rich Dembowski's lyrics on the 10 song Westering Again evoke winsome images of riparian vistas and wine stained front porches, of places forgotten and out of the way. The album feeds from bright guitar-driven melodies with complicated and earthy arrangements, mixed in with a little down-home countrytwang and dovetailing instrumental jams venturing to the psychedelic/ philosophic.

MARK KARAN & JEMIMAH PUDDLEDUCK is a rock band led by lead guitarist Mark Karan (RatDog, Other Ones).

In addition to Karan the band also includes John "JT" Thomas (Bruce Hornsby) on keys, Bob Gross (Delaney Bramlett, Albert King) on bass, and Billy Lee Lewis (Tommy Castro, Roy Rogers) on drums.

Mark Karan is best known for performing with the extended Grateful Dead family.  For the last twelve years, he has anchored the lead guitar slot in Bob Weir & RatDog, playing hundreds of shows to thousands of fans year-round. Before crossing over into the land of the Dead, Mark worked his guitar and vocal voodoo for the likes of Dave Mason, Delaney Bramlett, the Rembrandts, Paul Carrack, Huey Lewis, Jesse Colin Young and Sophie B. Hawkins.

Mark also tours with an array of amazing musicians on his own, where his soulful blues-based vocal stylings and inspired guitar work meld with the remarkably creative and responsive playing of his friends in a passionate delivery of the psychedelicized sounds of Americana. This is where rock meets R&B and country and mixes with the soul of New Orleans… with healthy portions of reggae, folk, funk and whatever else the muse might bring.

Our second album, “Free,” is available only over the web and only for free. The single from that album, "It's 4:20 Somewhere" has been downloaded more than 430,000 times. CUBENSIS - America's longest running tribute to the GRATEFUL DEAD

For 35 years, a musical troupe called the Grateful Dead toured the nation, delighting thousands with their eclectic brand of American rock n’ roll. Now, CUBENSIS brings the Grateful Dead concert experience back to life, performing a three-hour show that retains all the spontaneous exploratory jamming for which the Dead were renowned.

The band doesn't reproduce the songs note for note---though it would be hard for most listeners to tell. The music is highly improvisational, with rock, country and jazz influences. Cubensis members say there's room for interpretation while remaining authentic.

Cubensis has been acclaimed for giving new life to the Grateful Dead’s material, bringing in new styles, new innovations, and new jam band fans, while remaining loyal to the original music and the original fans. You won’t find the band wearing wigs and fake beards to re-create the Dead experience. They prefer to use the Dead's music and their own instrumental prowess to create a memorable, magical evening for audiences around the country.

PUNK IS DEAD - Punk rock versions of Grateful Dead songs?!?

Two high school buddies reunited after about 20 years apart, and decided it would be a good time to start a band. The two had very similar taste in music, and it just made sense. What they concocted, however, was not normal: a punk rock band playing Grateful Dead songs.

You see, one of the friends is Jeff Abarta, the very first (and still current) employee hired at Epitaph records, the preeminent punk rock record label, based in Los Angeles. He soon became engulfed in the world of the Grateful Dead, which did not sit well with many of the bands on the label. This interesting quandary was documented by Fat Mike, by writing “Jeff Wears Birkenstocks?” on NOFX’s 1994 album Punk In Drublic.

So when Jeff and Mike San Miguel got together over a few beers, and decided they should start a punk rock band, and that it should exclusively cover Grateful Dead songs, it seems that any preconceived notions about the two worlds being entirely mutually exclusive was shattered. Jeff had already been exposed to the harsh realities the hippies faced against the punkers, so he was ready to get lambasted.

Much to the surprise of the two, there has been nothing but warm receptions everywhere they go. Even opening for old-school punk bands like the Adolescents and Bad Religion have yielded comments like, “Man, I have always hated the Grateful Dead, but that was awesome!”, and Dead Heads tend to dance their asses off. Instead of creating a war between the two tribes, it seems the band has found a previously unforeseeable intersection of mutual respect.

Punk Is Dead is a four-piece band, consisting of Phil Drazic on drums (Osker, End On End), and Josh Spincic on bass (End On End), as well as Mike San Miguel and Jeff Abarta on guitars and vocals.

Three cheers for making this long strange trip, even stranger than it might otherwise be.

RACHEL SEDACCA - Hailing from Ventura's Gold Coast of Southern California, this troubadour writes songs of adventure on the road in her 35 foot, vintage 1971 schoolbus "Patience" with a clever perspective on life.  Influenced by the seasoned, bluesy style of Bonnie Raitt, the work ethic of the Grateful Dead and the raw emotion of Janis Joplin, Rachel's stage presence is strong and undeniable.  This award winning songwriter is endorsed by Luna Guitars and holds her own touring as a solo act or backed by her top shelf string band having played many of the legendary clubs and venues around the Los Angeles area as well as music festivals such as Live Oak Music Festival and GroovePhest 2010.  Rachel is a true entertainer and always great time wherever she may be.

RICH SHELDON & FRIENDS - The following Los Angeles radio stations have featured Rich Sheldon’s music: “Frosty, Heidi, and Frank show” on 97.1 FM; “Local Licks” on 95.5 FM KLOS; and “The Music Never Stops” with Barry Smolin on KPFK 90.7 FM.  Rich’s music also is played on various College and Public supported stations in the U.S., Europe, & Austrailia.

In 2007, the tune "Meet You In the Heavens" appeared on Ziggy Marley radio, a podcast show at ziggymarley.com, and in the film "American Drug War, The Last White Hope", directed by Kevin Booth, (A Sacred Cow Production, co-founded by comedian Bill Hicks).

In 2004 RELIX Magazine selected Rich’s song “Destination Unknown” from his album “Rebel Soul Band” for their RELIX JAM OFF compilation CD, and he appeared with his band in the magazine’s “On The Verge” section.

Rich occasionally performs with Young Dubliner's guitarist, Bob Boulding and has performed with Innocent Criminals bassist, Juan Nelson and son Preston Nelson.  He has recorded on studio tracks with Ed Tree of The Spencer Davis Group, Rick Shlosser (former drummer for Van Morrision) and Dig Lewis (former bassist for Stevie Wonder).  He has appeared on the same bill with David Lindley & Wally Ingram, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Chris Hillman of The Byrds, and Sweetwater.

QUACTUS - Formed during the Spring of 2005 from an eclectic mix of gentlemen from both coasts and a little of the Midwest, Quactus came together in Los Angeles after guitarist Seth Gordon, drummer Matthew McDuffee, guitarist Gabriel Weiner, and bassist Greg Zachan had the good fortune of crossing paths with each other. The members of Quactus have over 30 years of musical and audio instruction amongst them in both private and college level courses, which has given the band a strong command of music theory, songwriting, improvisation, vocal technique and music production skills.

This combined experience finally culminated in the release of the band’s self-produced and recorded debut album, “Once a pond, a spine…”, in early 2008. The album’s release, along with incessant promotion via the internet, has garnered a wider following for the band outside of Southern California, including a win on Jambands.com's "New Groove of the Month" Poll for May 2008 and an invitation to become a member band in the Home Grown Music Network, which has led to further national exposure and radio airplay. Additionally, the band has shared the stage with several national acts, including Particle, The New Mastersounds, Tea Leaf Green, John Popper (Blues Traveler), Moonalice (w/ members of Phil Lesh and Friends, Hot Tuna, Bruce Hornsby, and Jefferson Starship), The Maykers, EOTO (w/ members of String Cheese Incident), Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Bobby Vega (Sly and the Family Stone), CR Gruver (Polytoxic/Outformation), Marc Ford (Black Crowes), Steve Molitz (Particle), Banyan, U-Melt, The Heavy Pets, Cubensis, Underground Orchestra, Delta Nove, Big Organ Trio, Jamie Janover, Leon Mobley, and Al Howard & the K23 Orchestra. Individual members of Quactus have also shared the stage or bill with Umphrey’s McGee, Melvin Seals and the Jerry Garcia Band, Mr. Blotto, and NOFX.

Taking its cue from the classic jam bands, including the Grateful Dead, Phish, and the Allman Brothers, Quactus, has developed a diverse style that blends various genres of music. Harmonious vocals set atop shifting textures and moods, mixed with subtle meter changes, intricate melodies, and a cohesive improvisational style backed by a solid rhythm section comprise the core of the Quactus sound. Yet, their jams may run the gamut from psychedelic to trance-like to ultra-funky or even heavy metal excess. In a live setting, the band never performs a show the same way twice, often including on-the-spot composition via hand signals between band members. The band is also known for throwing in a cover tune or song tease from time to time. As a result, Quactus is establishing itself as one of the most exciting new live acts to emerge from the Southern California scene.

Currently the band is promoting and planning a tour in support of their sophomore album, "A Sense of We", which came out on July 20, 2010. The album showcases some of the band’s most progressive compositions to date, including tracks that contain elements of Hard Rock, Dance, Jazz, Acoustic, Reggae, Punk, Metal, World Music, and Jam Improv. With this album, the band’s musicianship and production skills have been taken to the next level, while maintaining the core Quactus sound. The album features special guest artists: Steve Molitz (Particle, Phil and Friends) and Mike Mangan (Big Organ Trio)

CRINOLINE - Los Angeles based Crinoline formed with the intent of producing evocative, dynamic energy in spite of the ordered, linear constructions of the now. We try to be innovative yet classic; ordered yet spontaneous. Our philosophy tends toward minimalism, but moves away from the usual patterned schema of the trite.

Originally, we were involved in quasi-formalistic proto-classical illusionism, but our music gradually evolved into a highly personal, luministically neo-environmental vision. We’ve also mastered 4 chords!

The band has now achieved a heightened, hieratic effect while maintaining a primitive, volumetric simultaneity. The tonality of our songs has reminded people of the archetypal and geometric work of the early harmonic mesoliths. In fact, we’ve been told that we resemble a cross between the Starland Vocal Band, X-Ray Specs, and moose mating!

Lyrically, we try to use mannered, graphic nuances which are painterly in their effect and optical in their symbolism. The semiotics embodied in our “ars poetica” reveals gestural tendencies and perceptual iconography. The words sometimes rhyme, too!

GOSPEL SWAMP BLUES BAND - We're not a gospel band, we're a blues band that plays all different styles of blues. On to the name. In the early 1870's, areas of the ccurrent cities Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and S. Santa Ana, CA. were known as GOSPEL SWAMP for the revival meetings that preachers held in tents for the local farmers in the swampland. The terrible draught of the late 1870's caused the water table to dry up by 75% which left the fertile swampland to be converted into valuble farmland. Our bands home town, Huntington Beach was founded in 1909 and is named after railroad pioneer and developer Henry Huntington.

We put own own touch on many of the great legendary blues songs on the masters. We're influenced by the great Robert Johnson, the legendary songs of Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, all of the Kings (BB, Albert & Freddie), Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, SRV, Bo Diddley, Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Joe Turner, Sonny Boy and many other great bluesmen of the 20th century.

BUDDHA'S SISTER = My songs are my story.

I never took many formal lessons on guitar aside from learning the basic chords. I never wanted to really learn how to play other people's songs. I was interested in writing my own songs and melodies. Aside from that, I wanted to create my own sound and style and so I thought the best way to do this was to practice my own songs and develope my own style.

When I was a little girl, I used to write songs on the piano and work out melodies in my head. If I ever wanted to play a song I heard, rather than learning how to read music, I would sound it out on the piano.

In high school, I took the greatest course of my life called Music Appreciation. Which translated to sitting on the lawn, playing my guitar for an hour every day and having to write a song a semester. "The Good Ol' Days".

In college, I went to USC film school and wrote and played a couple songs for my friends films on the guitar and piano.

During my final years of college was when I really started writing a lot of songs. After graduation I started playing out around town in a bunch of bars and clubs. I have always loved music, writing, singing and performing and I will always continue my path of creation.

THE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL is a Venice, California-based roots collective that merges old school gypsy rhythms with   bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, jump blues and the hot swing of the 1930’s to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for their fun, lose-your-troubles live sets, the Dustbowl Revival plays what some call hillbilly jazz—the original front porch rock n' roll: Think Old And In The Way meets Louis Armstrong's hot swing bands in New Orleans. Growing steadily from a small string band playing local Southern California clubs (nearly a hundred shows in the last two years), DBR is now a small orchestra of over ten musicians with instrumentation that often includes tuba, accordion, trombone, clarinet, trumpet, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, lapsteel, drums, guitars, double bass, harmonica and plenty of washboard and kazoo for good luck. The band’s spontaneous, participatory set-lists assure that every show is a little bit different. A brand new EP was recorded on analog with Raymond Richards (Local Natives, Parson Redheads, Dengue Fever) and will be released May 7, 2011!
